GLASS GALAXY SUMMER CAMP

Stern Glass works welcomes our younger creatives into the studio this summer with

GLASS GALAXY SUMMER CAMP!

An inclusive program for you child to explore the endless possibilities of glass-art!

Glass Galaxy Summer Camp Ages 10-13 are three day, 1/2 day length programs, 9am-noon Tuesday through Thursday. Throughout the summer we offer three sessions for this age group. Each session focuses on a different project based agenda allowing your kiddo to choose whichever they find exciting!

Ages 10-13

  • Join us June 27-29 to make enameled hanging glass mobiles. Each artist will enamel glass components of their mobile with favorite colors and designs based on their unique interests!

    In addition to designing the pre-cut glass shapes that will make up the bulk of the mobile, each artist will work one-on-one with the instructor to make a central shape/design for their mobile!

    Each artist will explore various vitreous enamel techniques such as painting, line work, subtractive and more!

  • Does a fused glass lantern with a galaxy theme of stars, moons, planets or even the make-believe sound exciting? Join us July 9-11 for the amazing fused glass lantern class.

    Students design and adorn clear glass panels with a variety of fused glass techniques such as powder drawing, frit (small chunks of glass) details, enamel work, and more.

    Each student will also have the opportunity to score and break glass with the aid and supervision of the instructor.

    Tuesday - Thurday, July 11-13

  • Join us in the studio July 25-27 to make a slumped candy dish with a mosaic of colors and shapes melted together out of glass.

    In this class artists will design a low-profile dish. They will choose between 4 shapes and use a combination of layering sheet glass, stringers, frit (small chunks of glass), glass powder and more to create a unique design of their own.

    These designs will be fired twice in the heat of an electric kiln. Once to melt it together and then again to give it 3D shape!

Each session is 1st time glass artist friendly! If your kiddo wants to join only 1 that is great! If they are interested in more than one each will go over new skill and build on what they have learned in the other session.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT DATE/PROJECTS?

Routine can help many of us feel comfortable particularly when in new situations!

With this in mind we will stick to the following daily routine:

9-9:05am: Arrival

9:05-9:20am: Project introduction, instructions and demonstrations

9:20-10:20am: Work on project

10:20-10:40am: Snack break (provided by SGW), stretch, and short group activity

10:40-11:40am: Work on project

11:40-11:50am: Load the kiln, final steps, and finish up

11:50am-noon: Clean up

Glass Galaxy Summer Camp High School are three-four day (12 hour total), 1/2 day programs, afternoons Tuesday through Thursday. Throughout the summer we offer three sessions for this age group. Each session focuses on a different technique and corresponding project. This gives your high-schooler the opportunity to pick and choose which type(s) of glass work they want to try this summer!

  • June 20-23 we will dive into the beauty of stained glass, making celestial panels to hang in the window.

    Artists will have the opportunity to choose between 2 celestial themed designs making these designs their own through their unique glass selection (color and texture) as well as patina choices.

    Students will learn and execute the steps of copper foil stained glass which includes: glass cutting/grinding, foiling, solder, patina, and more!

    When:

    Tuesday - Friday, June 20-23

  • If masquerades, mystery or fantasy is your style then come on in July 5-7 to make a fused/slumped glass mask that’s made specifically to fit your face!

    Artist will create glass masks, thinking of transparency and layering and shape and design by utilizing a combination of cut sheet glass, stringers/rods/frit, and enamel.

    Artists will work in teams to take molds of their faces. They will then uses these to create a 2nd mold in which to slump their unique glass piece creating a custom fit glass mask.

    When:

    Tuesday - Friday, July 5-7

    noon to 4pm

  • Explore the world of 360 degree detail in our Cast Glass Through Mold Making class July 18-21!

    Artists will delve into sculpting with wax and clay to create objects that will be translated into glass through a mold making process!

    We will explore multiple plaster/silica mold making techniques working elbow deep in plaster to hand build our glass casting molds.

    Each artist will assemble their own color pallet of glass and learn how to properly fill and prepare their molds for firing.

    Finally we will wrap the week up with finishing up our cast glass creations with grinding and polishing where necessary!
